The Greek motor tanker Andron was on voyage from Mena al Ahmadi, Kuwait to Venice loaded with crude oil when she sank off the coast of SW Africa about 80 miles North of Luderitz in lat 25.40S, 14.40E on May 8, 1968, after her engine room flooded due to pipe fracture. All 27 on board were rescued by nearby vessels. A huge oil slick subsequently caused pollution problems to the nearby coast.
