Three members of the 46 man crew of the French steam tanker Iphigenia were killed when an explosion ripped through her cargo spaces some 300 miles north of San Juan, PR in lat 23.32N, long 67.00W about 8 am on December 11, 1966. The vessel which had been on a ballast voyage from Montreal to Curacao then began to sink. She was adandoned by the remainder of the crew who spent 12 hours in lifeboats before being rescued by the steamship Jamaica Planter.
