Arrietta S Livanos was bound for Rotterdam with a full cargo of crude. On afternoon of October 22, 1966, she was off Ushant on a course of 050 at about 15.5 knots. There was little wind, sea calm, occaisonal patches of fog and rain. Bulk carrier Anneliese was in ballast on a course of 237 making 15 knots. Arrietta picked up other ship on radar at 8 miles, Annelise did the same. Annelise altered 2 degrees to starboard. Arrietta did nothing until the ships were about 1.5 miles apart then went hard port. Just about the same time, Anneleise altered 17 degrees to the right. Anneliese struck Arrieta at an angle of 60 degrees leading forward just aft of the bridge and flooded her engine room.

Classic Dance of Death. There must have been at least a bunker spill, but we have no data. Arrietta survived and later became Atlantic and then Pennsylvania.
